Pre-birth Care

Continuity of care is central to our practice. It is our belief that if the woman knows her caregiver well a trusting relationship is formed.

Pregnancy testing, all referrals for laboratory tests, specialist consultations and regular pregnancy checks at our rooms in Newtown, are all included in the service.

Scans now incur a fee. If we offer acupuncture to our clients we do ask for a koha to cover the cost of our acupuncture needles and moxa.

You can choose either a birth in hospital or a home birth. The majority of the postnatal care is from birth to four weeks.

One midwife will provide continuity throughout as your lead maternity carer but you will also get to know a second midwife as we have allotted time off.

You can call us on the pager on 04 801 0206 if you have any concerns during your pregnancy, but please try to keep any non-urgent pregnancy questions or issues to usual working hours 9am-5pm so that we can try to keep a semblance of normality to our own family lives. Thank you for respecting this.

Labour and Birth

You can call us at any time. We are on call 24 hrs a day. Ring our pager on 04 801 0206 if you think that your active labour has started.

Labour usually starts with contractions. You may have irregular short contractions to begin with as the cervix (neck of the womb) prepares for birth. It may also begin with the membranes (waters) breaking and a loss of clear fluid.

Post-birth Care

We visit you every day until around the 5th to 7th day, then every second or third day. We will provide care up to a final visit at around 4 - 6 weeks.

You can call us whenever you need to with urgent concerns, with non-urgent questions or concerns please try to ring in daytime hours if possible.
